    Work with me here

So I am lazy and I don't like using another stake for the shelf and for pulling out the bug net. I usually just hook the shock cord to one of my tarp stakes.
The problem is that once I get in and load the hammock the side I enter on is never tight enough. I'm thinking about using some super light shock cord on the mitten hooks so I can take up slack there as well as the white shock cord supplied. Anyone else have this issue and already solved it?

Like you, I regularly hook the pull-outs to a tarp stake. I've not noticed this problem. The shelf is on the other side. I guess you're saying it's the head side that goes slack. Have you tried simply setting more tension in the shock cord on that side when you put it up? Maybe more tension on both sides(?)

I rarely use the pull out any more. I don't find the shelf being close a problem.

I feel like I have used up all the shock cord at times. I tend to keep the hammock lower than seat height so that may be one reason. I was laying in it and wanted to make a further adjustment but the adjustment is just too far for me to reach. I was looking at the cord in front of my face and I thought it just makes sense to have adjustment right there within easy reach.
