    Argon vs Hexon ? 1.6

I am looking to get a new hammock, and I keep hearing about these new fancy fabrics from Dutch.

I am about 190 lbs, so I figure the 1.6 weight is about right.

How do they compare? From what I read, the Hexon is almost a cotton feel compared to nylon and poly.

    Thanks for any input.

One of the parts of that cottony feel is the thread used to make Hexon fabric. It is the same as ARGON which was developed first. So I took the ARGON threads and gave them the diamond weave like PolyD and NylonD. The last component is the ripstop. I have it much more ripstop than you will see in most ripstop nylons or ARGON. So it has the softness of the ARGON with more strength and a little more firmness. As far as the cottony feel they should be the same because they are made from the exact same type of fiber.

So you are saying the Hexon fabric is Argon fabric on steroids with the same soft gushy center?
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Ok, so I gotta jump in here. I have been looking at all of your fabrics Dutch and I get all boggled in no time. My order finger just seems to hover above the button and then I change my mind. I have been wanting a DL 11 footer in Hexon, but I'm struggling with the fabric weights. I'm 6'3 350lbs.... you said re-bar right?
I would rather be in the woods... my dog would rather be in the pool. My wife thinks we are both nuts.

    BigE94,

I recently received a Hexon 2.4 11 footer in poppy red. Despite your size, there is No Need for DL. I would feel confident piling my whole family in this hammock. It feels super strong.

I am not sure I would agree with the "feels like cotton" characterization but, it doesn't feel bad. Also, I am not sure I'd buy Poppy red again, It REALLY POPS.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at the poppy red as well. Sounds like both of us may have underestimated the poppyness of the red poppy. I like it though. We'll see if I have the guts.

I was only thinking about a DL so I could get a pad in between. I'm not ready for a UQ yet. My thought process was that if 2.4 was good for a SL then 1.6 would be good for a DL. So many choices. If I was smart I would just email Dutch.

    BigE94,

Don't let me discourage you from the Poppy Red. It is a great color just more vivid than your traditional muted browns and greens. It would defeat any effort to stealth camp but, if you like colorful...Your friends with ENOs will be envious.

As far as using a pad, the surface of the Hexon fabric is textured not slick like Argon or Nylon. I believe that a pad would actually stay put on Hexon even without being held between layers.

    Good Luck

THX. Good info on the texture of the Hexon. I'd like to be able to get away with a SL. Wish Dutch had some 72'' offerings.
