Ok, installed a clevis pin on one end so there's no way for that set of legs to walk off the end. Will spice up dog bone to limit the inward walking.
Bad news is, for sure the ridgepole bent. It bent on the short section near the joint.
Going to install a coupler and see if that helps. Have to drill it first so the snap button works.

Dog bone spliced and installed. That and the clevis pin will keep those legs from wandering.
Another day playing around with finding the final measurements for the ridgepole then cut, drill, pin, splice and done.
Dog bone limiting splice.

You can see the deflection and the pole bend location at the joint.

Coupler installed and drilled to allow snap button to work properly.

I'm thinking a 6' length of 1 1/4" something inserted in the ridgepole will take care of any deflection issues.

I really like the idea of the clevis pin, and it's got me thinking. If I drill through both the fitting and the top tube I can secure it through both like how it was done with the spurtle stand.

What kind of tips do you use on the pole mod?
How would this limit adding an extender?
Got to put mine together lastnight. I have to give rights to Ratdog. I used his measurements for the legs.

I guess it wouldn't depending on where you drill it.
Wonder if drilling the L would put a lot of stress on the clevis pin and ridgepole at the point of contact. The method I used allows for a little movement, not much but some.
Either way will allow for an extension presuming it's the swaged end that is inserted and then I could drill that and pin it with the same clevis.
Been caught up with yard work for an elderly neighbor and now it's skeeter time. Project work will have to wait until tomorrow.
Looking good.
Like I said, I really like the 7' legs. The 5' might be useful for a winter setup when I want the tarp super low to the ground and maybe indoors but I am liking the longer legs for sure.
