    Hammock Play Day

Mike and I had been planning a "Hammock Practice Day" to experiment with some techniques and solve a few problems (e.g., rain in his hammock). Anyway, the weather was spectacular--sunny and in the 50s, leaves glorious, etc.--so we took our gear to a park out in Auburn, NH.

    We brought along:

    • Mike's Hennessey Hammock
    • A $2 nylon hammock he found in a shop somewhere
    • My Warbonnet Blackbird and WB cat hex tarp
    • My ENO Singlenest

    Here are the photos...

A beautiful morning and a trio of hammocks. We tied back the Hennessey's side guy to give Mike more room under his tarp.

Mike twiddles with his Hennessey to bring the tarp up a bit. You can see how he's set up the suspension.

Rich works up a sweat supervising from his Blackbird. It's great to be able to tie back the bugnet.

Mike tries out his $2 special. Not necessarily light, but pretty comfortable. (You can tell he's suffering).

Rich tries to understand the flappy sides on his Singlenest (do *you* know why they're there?) The storage pouch is convenient for keeping a water bottle nearby. BTW, my first hammock outing was in this Singlenest a month ago. Though the temperature dropped to 40F, I was mighty toasty in my 20F synthetic bag and EMS inflatable pad. Fortunately, there were no bugs.

Enough work; time to relax and enjoy the morning! Rich lies at an angle in the Blackbird while Mike lies straight in the Hennessey.

Admiring our work. A veritable Hammock Town.

We set up and tore down each hammock several times. I enjoyed getting a better feel for the Warbonnet hammock and tarp. The Figure9's made quick work of tarp setup and adjustment, and I like the flat lay in the Blackbird (note the profile in the side view images). Mike took a shot at adjusting his tarp height to prevent a recurrence of the "wet hammock syndrome" he got when it rained at Franconia Brook a few weeks back.

All in all, a successful day of play and learning.
