Video: Hang'n with my Mama on the Appalachian Trail

This last weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to take a birthday hike with non other than the woman that brought me into this world. It was her first overnight hike and something she's wanted to do since I thru'd 12 years ago. We took it pretty easy and did Sam's Gap to Spivey Gap (13.6mi) for two nights. She throughly enjoyed the camping, especially the hammock, and not so much the climbs...but she made it. Pretty proud of my Mama. I really hope others get the remarkable opportunity to hike with their parents. It was amazing!

I hope you get to soon. I'm looking forward to when my daughter is a little older and we can have a 3 generation hiking trip.

My pleasure. Glad I could bring those memories back up to the surface for ya. This was my Moms first overnight backpacking trip and I don't think it will be the last. I'm excited for the next one!

I have a friend that I would love to take with me on hikes. She's not in the best shape though. Do you mind me asking the weight of your Mom's pack?

Great that you took your mom. Seems like quit a long and difficult walk for an elderly lady. So excellent she did it!

I take my mom for about a 1.5 to 2 hour walk in the forrest every sunday (she is 75) because she loves nature :-). I can't make her happier than going for a drive and then have a nice walk.

Great to see you did as well.

The pack by itself weighs 1lb. She carried 13lbs.

Thats pretty awesome you get out for a walk with your mom every Sunday. My mom is one of those people that can do anything she puts her mind to. She did good and I believe I may helped motivate a good habit. I can't wait to get out there with her again.
