Thanks for sharing! That was pretty cool that you got to see your signature in the log book from so many years ago. I bet you got to share some cool tales from the trail with your mom.

And that shelter sure looked different than the last time I stayed at it. It's good to hear I'm not the only one crazy enough to camp there during the winter.

Glad you enjoyed it! My mom has heard many-a-tales of the trail. She really enjoyed the "It isn't always this nice" and "This isn't that steep" talk, made her laugh out loud a few times. She shuttled a buddy and myself up to Erwin and we hiked down to Sams a couple years ago. The snow wasn't that bad, but the sleet sucked. I may have exaggerated a bit on the depth around the shelter. It was awesome/crazy hiking over Big Bald in the snow despite not having views. I couldn't find any pics, but here is a pretty cool little video I made of the trip.
