Costco summer top quilt???

So I walked into Costco and saw outdoor down quilts with stuff sack for 20 bucks and thought about giving one a try. Seemed to be about half the amount of down thickness as my burrow 20 degree. Label stated that it was 70 x60 size and had 700 (not great i know)fill. Anyone think this would be worth a try? Could probably sew a fot box and use as a tq. I have been looking at a burrow 40, but struggling with price so have been just using my 20 degree in the summer.

There is another thread about these and folks are snapping them up.

Will be short, but would make a nice (but not super-light) quilt. Could add a panel at the foot end for a footbox from climashield or down and not lose length.

Oh, and while we love the highest fp down, an item from 700fp down isn't THAT much heavier than 800fp. In actual use there is little noticeable difference.

Thanks for the info. Guess there's not much to be lost. I can always opt for an upgrade later. This would let me save my 20 burrow for the cold temps. I don't really like taking it out in the summer in ga with the lows in the 70s and the high humidity.

Cut the width down to 50". Maybe even taper, or half taper. Use the scraps to make a panel for the foot box, and sew it in.

I doubt these are good to 40, but definitely a 60+ piece of gear for $20 and a little elbow grease.

I'm in process of making my Costco TQ and UQ and plan to use them for the first time the weekend of the 17th. It is forecasted to be in the mid 40's while I am there so we shall see once and for all how low they can go (for me anyways).

I used mine outside last night after the rain. It got down to 50º with almost 100% humidity. I was toasty warm on top and just wore an everyday thermal top, a pair of shorts and no socks - and I consider myself a cold sleeper.

I'm going to try it again this weekend when the temps are supposed to dip down to the mid 30s but I have every intention of packing my 20º TQ in case it isn't enough.

I will say that unless it's mild out, a footbox is a must-have. If your feet escape during the night, and mine did, they'll be super chilly!

+1 on that! Over in one of the Costco threads, I posted about sewing ribbon loops at the end of each stitching row and just cinching them with a drawcord. It is really more than enough for a TQ like this that will only be used at the milder and more clement outdoor temperatures. It was quick, super easy, super efficient, and you can open the throw back up flat if you would prefer.
