What to do in Gatlinburg, TN? Need suggestions.

We have clingmans dome for tomorrow. What else should I check out while I'm here? Have 3 kids, baby tot and 4 year old. Thanks in advance.

Rainbow falls would be a great hike (need baby backpack ). Another activity would be go to Townsend and go to the Heritage center museum and then after you can pick up subway sandwiches and have a picnic in Cades Cove loop (half way around the loop is a visitor center w/bathrooms) . You can also stop by some old cabins and church's and Mose likely see wild life. (Deer and bears). Have a good trip.

Avoid Gatlinburg. I also avoid Cades Cove. A good little hike from the Clingman's Dome parking area if you don't mind a little walking is Andrews Bald.

Already down here Sgt R. Thanks for the suggestions though. Think we're going to do Andrews Bald while at Clingmans. Anyone have anything? Rafting worth it around here or tubing?

Also thanks for the heads up on Cades Cove. Everyone's hoping to see black bears while we're here.

Tubing go yo Townsend and you can park at the tubing place and they will shuttle you up to the Y so you can tube down the Little River to your car. My son worked one summer for a tube place while in college.

You might want to try Steak and Trout while in town.

I second SGT Rock. The tubing is great in Townsend!

I haven't ever rafted the Big Pigeon but they say it's good. I prefer to raft the Nantahala over in NC. It's just a short drive over the smokies and you can see the sites on the way.

Have a great vacation in the Smokies! Ck out Grotto falls---its on the roaring fork motor trail near Gatlinburg. (probably lots of people too, but last time we saw a couple of bears!) Parking might be a problem, so you might want to get there early in the day. Along the same road there are several old cabins and a restored tub mill.
Thats whats so great about the smokies---there is something for everyone, from touristy shopping to deep wilderness! (wish I was there right now!)
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.
