    Buffalo River Trail - AR

I'm thinking of doing a 4 - 5 day trip to the Buffalo River Trail in Arkansas in November, maybe weekend before Thanksgiving. I would like to also go by and see Whitaker Point. I have never hiked any part of the trail. Has anyone else hiked the trail? I would like some feedback about the trail. I think the total length of the trail is about 36 miles so easy mileage if I do the whole 4 - 5 days. Any suggestions about which sections are best if I don't do the whole length and just go for the weekend. Thanks!!!

I hiked the entire trail in 2014... great hike and November is a great time for the BRT. All of the sections are great - my favorite is area on each side of Steel Creek. We always planned our hikes so that we can overnight near running water - takes a bit of planning. There are some spectacular vistas. Quite a bit of up and down.

I have yet to do much hiking on the BRT. I have done some white water trips on it back in the late 80's. It looks like a nice week long trip.

Is water readily available on the trail or do you have to get it from the Buffalo River? The river looks like it is well below the bluffs that the trail runs along.

In all but the driest of seasons, there are ample run-offs, creeks, or streams that cross the trail and are more than sufficient for harvesting water. Not much of the trail has easy access to the Buffalo River other than the campgrounds.

Thanks hawhangar for the info, I was wondering about access to the river; all the pictures I'd seen from the trail looked like the trail was way above the river itseld and not very close. Glad you confirmed that. Thanks!!!!
