Day 26 this year so far
Loving life
April is on Black rock mountain with BSA. It rained Friday night and I was up out of the mud!. The low was 48F, highs for the weekend were 79F.
DIY UQ was fantastic even with some 5+mph breezes on top of the mountain.

Crappy cell phone pic at first light but I got my April hang in last night. That makes 8 out of 8 so far. Overnight low of 55* but this was one of the worst nights I've ever had in a hammock. My setup wasn't perfect as it was very windy when I was setting up and I was more concerned about getting my tarp up for a wind block than getting my hammock dialed in just right. As a result my tarp was slightly off center on my hammock and my hammock was set up with the head end too high. I switched around at one point in the night but then my lay was wrong with my knotty mods and my underquilt was wrong as well.... Anyway, the wind never let up. All night long it was 25-25 mph constant wind with gusts around 50 mph. I've never swung and bounced around so much in a hammock before but I don't think that would have been a huge problem if not for the noise of my tarp flapping all night long. At one point a strong gust ripped out one of my stakes and rather than find it in the dark I just extended the line and tied off to the root of a nearby downed tree. That was more secure but also left me a bit more exposed. I generally like a bit of a breeze to get me swaying at night but this was too much. I can't believe I forgot my earplugs on this trip, that probably would have salvaged the night. Oh well, that's part of the learning process as we get more experience. I now know I suck at setting up in the wind...

#12nights 8 for 8
Took care of April last weekend with a couple days out on the trail. Even went without the tarp and enjoyed the view.

Weather permitting, going without a tarp is my favorite way to hang!
I got my 5th night in. December through April. Beautiful night, but it got colder than expected, and the DIY UQ I was using didn't get the job done. I was hoping it would get me down to 50 degrees, but it definitely failed to get me to 35 degrees.

The soft white hush lapped the Northland and wrapped us round in a crystalline dream."

I have never seen this post before. I like the idea a lot. And its a great time of the year for me to start this challenge. I wont lie unless I get an underquilt soon I probably wont be able to make it through the winter. Eep, this friday the lows are int he 30's. Really wish I did it 2 weeks ago.I pulled the hammock out for a nap but didn't sleep overnight.
