Ticket to the moon — Indoors full time sleeping

    Hey guys,
I'm new to the forums and to the world of hammocks. I have some back problems so I'd like to ditch the bed for something more comfortable and I'd like to hear some recommandations. I saw the TTTM hammocks, but I understand they are camping hammocks and they are not really suitable for indoors full use.

Also, if I ditch the bed, I'd like to know that the hammock can be warm even in the winter, since having a cold back isn't exactly what I'm looking for .

Also, if any full time hammock sleepers chime in, I'd love to see a picture of your hammock setup .

    Thanks in advance,
    Bob

Welcome to the site. There are quite a few full time hangers. Someone will chime in soon, I am sure.

My husband works nights, so when he is not at home, I sleep in my hammock. It is in the sleeping porch so I made a modified turtle dog stand (the supports are A shaped and the ridge pole goes from wall to wall). There was no stud in the middle of the room to attach to, and using a stand allowed me to adjust things till I got it right.

You need the right underquilt to stay warm, which could be synthetic (instead of down) since you don't have to pack it. Also, there are advantages to topquilts that make them better than just using a blanket in your hammock.

thats my hammock inside, with a PLUQ of my own design. there are more pictures in my gallery you can find by clicking on my name. i also have back problems, and i hate sleeping on a bed. i find myself in the guest room in the morning sometimes after nature calls, and i regret it every single time. i also have insomnia pretty badly, and the hammock makes it so much easier to get truly good rest that i'll toss out all the mattresses in the world. staying warm in the winter is a matter of building or purchasing the right under quilt. mine is made from a poncho liner and a space blanket and i believe in it down to at least 50 degrees Fahrenheit; i plan to add some 7.5 apex climbashield to bring it down to winter camping power. camping hammocks sleep inside just as well as outside, so don't let the moniker fool you. the nylon (or polyester, in my case) you're likely to get doesn't chaff or cause irritations and you can sleep comfortably in the buff if you so desire (do not post pictures). DIY versions are around, dutch has the best everything at www.dutchwaregear.com, including hammocks and a ludicrous amount of accessories if you choose to delve deeper into the camping aspect of it. there are several here who hammock 365 and you could not take our hammocks from us.

EDIT: my anchor and suspension pictures are in the gallery, too. a 2x4 stud is holding my 200# brother on two lag bolts, and he tosses and turns and it scares me lol. i sleep on my back in the hammock, and do not change positions all night. a small pillow with beads from a bean bag, and i actually just use a blanket until it gets real winter, then the TQ will come out. check out websites like undergound quilts and arrowhead equipment, they have Under Quilts and Top Quilts, hammocks, tarps, cordage, everything you could possibly need, and if these guys dont' have it, someone here knows who does.

RE-EDIT: welcome! glad you're getting ready to forsake sleeping on stuff and start swaying happily to dreamland!

    Dear Bob

Here you can read more about the benefits to sleep in a hammock:

FYI you could setup a hammock indoor with ease thanks to 2 stainless steel rings (locally available) on the wall!
As for the insulation, you need to use a sleeping bag...

Pick your hammock, any camping hammock or the cotton ones all work just fine indoors...just a matter of size fit comfort for you
Pick your underquilt, a 50* one synthetic or down will work just fine
Use a blanket or quilt on top of you matched to your needs temp wise.
Plus one for the Anchors which can be found at Home Depot and other places

    Hey there,
Thank you for the reply I am wondering if a sleeping bag will be enough to keep me warm during the winter.. the room is not that cold, but I heard it gets much colder when sleeping in a hammock.

    Hey Bob!

The signature of the parachute hammocks is durable, elastic, anti-mildew, skin-friendly...and breathable, so it will not keep you warm as well as it will not keep your body heat!
The best solution for insulation is to use the a sleeping bag as "underquilt" to maintain the warm of your body without loosing the comfort property of your hammock.
    Here how to DIY http://gear-report.com/how-to-make-a...-sleeping-bag/

Looking forward to welcome you into the hammock tribe!
