My DIY underquilt is finally finished :-)

    Hi folks.

I have finally finished my uq. I made it from a cheap sleepingbag (8 Euro's) which was 190 cm long and 150 (2 x 75) cm wide. Now the uq is 165 cm long and 123 cm wide. I have cut the sleepingbag on all four sides to make channels, through which I put shockcord (3 mm) and added cordlocks.

It is definately a summer uq, seeing as it only goes to (according to the specs) about 10 C, although I don't trust those specs much. I have another sleepingbag (the same) and will make a top quilt out of it.

This was only the second time in my life I worked with a sowing machine, so it's not perfect, but I am still extremely happy with the result and rather proud of myself .

    What do you think?

The image above is on the long end, so I can tighten those up to get the uq closer to my underside.

I placed a pillow in my DIY hammock to spread it out a bit so you can see the uq better.

Looks like it will work to me. Try sleeping in it outside one night and report back on how well it worked. I have been wanting to try what I just made, but it is still 80+ degrees F out at night.

I will deifinately report back as soon as I have had the chance to take it outside. I hope I don't freeze my butt of

Very well done! I'm planning to do this to get me through the early parts of Fall. Get a cheapish sleeping bag, cut it in two, make a UQ and TQ. I like how you made the channels, I was going to use Grossgrain, but I think I'll do what you did. To help with staying warm, you can add a windshield reflector. Ive been just using that and its kept me warm down to 65 so far.
Cant wait to see the TQ!

Nice work Martin, and you're right, it's addictive. If you get a chance show a pic of it in a stuff sack. Curious how well it compresses and what it weighs.
10c isn't bad. It's likely getting to those temps now so you can test it out. You may also be able to layer something within this UQ to add additional warmth. Again, nice work.
Crayons - they might look different, but they all taste the same
