    ENO Helios Hammock Suspension System

Just read a review on this suspension system at trailspace but would love to see some more pics of how the setup works. They are currently at REI online. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts?

From what I can tell from the pictures on Eno's website, they're pretty much a whoopie sling attached to a loop at the end of a tree sling. Your have to wrap the strap around a tree and then thread the whoopie sling end through a loop at the other end of the tree sling. Then you attach your hammock to the whoopie sling. This means you have to use a carabiner (or possibly a Dutch Clip) neither of which is included when you buy the suspension kit.

As I'm sure many other hangers do, I use whoopie slings attached (Larks Head) to my hammock and hang it from a marlin spike hitch on my tree straps. This still requires that I thread the tree strap through the loop on it's end or use a carabiner (haven't shelled out for Dutch Clips yet).

Bottom line IMO: Considering the similarities of both systems and me being a cheap-*** hanger the $35 price tag on the Eno system seems a bit ridiculous.

Just thought it was interesting coming from a larger company. A whoopie made out of dyneema something different too. Just was curious.

Normal whoopies are made of dyneema as well aren't they? Amsteel Blue is 100% Dyneema i thought

I'm sure this has been answered before but, does anyone know how long the tree strap portion is? We have some pretty big trees in my area and don't want the amsteel rubbing or touching the tree bark...

I expect it is because the Eno hammocks all come with carabiners, so they figure you already have it and they don't include another set with the suspension.

If you're willing to hang from a whoopie which only has about a 2 3/4 inch bury, then go for it... I wouldn't hand over anything sharp though.

And they put the fixed eye on the wrong side, so when you fully extend the whoopie it's only half as long as it could be and double the weight...also as someone else said it's a really short bury where it compresses
