I just did a backpacking trip on the Buffalo River Trail from Kyles Landing to Pruitt in the Ozarks close to the town of Jasper... We hiked through the Ozark campground which is very nice and had plenty of trees to hang from. Maybe one option for a group hang. Many things to do. Backpack, Hike, canoe or just lay around.

Here are a few pic's of a water fall area called Triple Falls and the other pic's are the Ozark Camp area. Friends of mine are in the area that would be a good Possibility for a group hang.
Interested, but where in the Ozarks are we talking about? Arkansas? Missouri?

Patrick, I was talking about Arkansas because that's the area I know. It wouldn't make much sense for me to plan a hang in MO since I've never camped up there.
Some thoughts:
1) Any weekend in January looks good for me.
2) A lot of the really impressive dayhikes in the area are bushwhacks with little to no parking or small trails. With as much interest as we've had in this thread, I'd hate to take 10+ people bushwhacking through the woods. That's not very LNT and causes a lot of damage.
3) A trip like the Buffalo River Trail would be more suited to those who want to backpack, but the scenery is not as impressive as some of the shorter dayhikes.
4) Another backpacking option would be the Eagle Rock Loop, which is the longest loop trail in AR. It's not easy terrain, so I'm not sure just how many would be interested.
It would help me out if I had an idea of who wanted to basecamp and who wanted to do a backpacking type trip. A few folks have already said which they would prefer, but it looks like most haven't.
The Eagle Rock Loop is a very beautiful place also. Many Options too. You could backpack the whole thing which is 26.8 miles, about 3 days, or you can car camp or backpack to the Winding Stairs area which is just under 3 miles. Its also a great place for a group hang.
Seems like having a choice would be nice. I backpack the Ozarks all the time, but I don't ever get to talk about hammocks with HF folks, so my leanings would be on basecamping.Originally Posted by east_stingray

I used to camp with my family in the Missouri Ozarks when I was a kid. Good memories. I'm very interested in the Arkansas Ozarks too. I'll keep following this thread with interest.

Eagle Rock Loop is a really nice area!!! There is only one section that is really difficult, that's Big Athens!! There are limitless possibilities in the Albert Pike Rec area just beyond the fee area for group hangs right on the river. Winding stairs Would be a nice dayhike. Little Missouri trailhead to Little Missouri falls could be another dayhike . Only been In this area 2 or 3 times, but i really like this placeMore than likely not good for january, wife is giving me a baby girl for Christmas!!
