    Springer for New Years?

I am having trouble finding details about the annual new years hang on Springer Mountain - anyone know what's going on with it this year? Links to discussions of events in prior years? I'd really like to push my winter setup nice and low, so would love to hit some of these winter hangs...

I haven't seen anything about this year's hang.

    I didn't find one for 2008/9

All I remember about it is Ed Speer mentioning it at the last SEHHA. I'd really like to go, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it. It's not like I ever do anything but sit around and watch people drink for new years...

I'd like to change that this year. If anyone from my area intends to go, let me know. I'll pitch in for gas. Ask Shrek, I'm a totally awesome riding partner. I never stop talking!

Maybe you and Peanuts should carpool.

I have been in years past

and would like to go again - the wife and her sister always do a New Years Eve girls night out, so I at times find myself free for the evening. Plenty of hanging space at Springer. It's a good time, lots of folks show up, and the last time I was there at least one thru-hiker started her trip the next day. Pretty neat.

I might go this year, depends on the weather. I can go down to about 20 if the winds aren't way up. And it seems like every single time I am up there overnight the winds across Springer are 30mph+!!

I hung up there this summer on a BMT/AT loop hike and it was the first time ever that the wind was relatively calm. There was a scout troop ground dwelling nearby and a couple of the boys were tarping it and had some rat visitors about 2am - they thrashed around for a while and then headed to the shelter....seemed to me to be out of the frying pan and into the fire!

I was up there one April night, we got hammered. I mean I bet the winds whipped across that mountain at 20-30 with gusts up around 40 or so, ALL NIGHT LONG. Those winds across the top is what has kept me away from New Years up there.

I might be interested as soon as I do some winter prep to my hammock.
As well as getting a nice sleeping bag.
Is it usually an overnighter or more?
