Just a bit of info that resulted in why we chose the time period in previous years that we did.
1. Snow was decently reliable (yes weather has been nuts the past 2 years) The weather is going to do what it is going to do. As an example this year we had just enough snow to use our Pulks. 2 weeks later there was not enough. Its a mountain who knows what will happen
2. It was the only time frame where we could plan out months in advance and barring a snow storm the camp ground was accessible and available. We have looked into moving it to dates where the snow mobiles are banned but that is when all the Snowshoe and Dog sled races and other events happen there somewhat regularly closing the road in making it hard to plan a weekend where we can pull it off. Meaning a month out we might have to change dates which can be a problem for some people's busy schedules.
3.We have searched for other locations but have not found anything that matched the ease of access/parking and available bailout options for people wanting to try winter camping for the first time. Its also as central to the masses as we could find. (Having the bathrooms is a huge bonus) At half a mile from the cars this site allows people to be able to carry in extra gear if needed without having to buy yet more expensive gear till they know that the whole winter camping thing is for them. We have gone on many scouting missions to find a site that was as good with no luck to date.
Any time period works fine for me, personally I can make it work but from previous years experience, It's not always as simple as let's just move it a month later because other factors will end up coming into play that mess it up. That is just some info that might help people understand why it ended up when and where it did and obstacles to watch out for when working out the details.

If folks needed sleds, and the road in is level, I have several sleds that they could use to carry loads in. No pulks though!
So how do I become a part of this! I'm new to the area I'm from the east coast and trying to find other hangers for backpacking and camping. People who know good trails and spots in the wa and or area. I'm in Tacoma wa
Where bout on East Coast? Rainier has lots of good hiking/Hanging as well as the Olympic Pen. I am sure there are lots that are a bit closer to you but I am not familiar. Quite a few hangers in your area. I am about 2-3 hours from you on the coast. As for being a part of this, you just say I am going and show up

Well grew up in Ohio but spent some time in New Jersey. Hated it! So is everything for the group hang organized thru here?
Some notes on the weather. Last year was a "normal" year in Washington for precipitation, it just was not cold enough for it to come as snow. The long term forecast for this winter are calling for 80% of normal precipitation. How that falls,as rain or snow is anyones guess.
Additionally, is anyone planning Washington winter hikes or get together? My Hood is a very long drive for some of us!

I am looking at doing at least one trip in northern Washington in addition to the yeti trip this year. The sooner I can get both on the calendar the better, as it will keep the wife from scheduling less fun events during the same time.
I am sure a couple smaller trips on Rainier will happen this winter.
