Greetings to all,
My name is Dave & I am going for my first hang this weekend!!
I'm 36, I've been a camper most of my life. I have been involved in Scouting in one form or another since my dad came home with a flyer when I was in second grade that said "Join Cub Scouts". I made Eagle Scout in 1997. Last year my eldest son bridged over from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. He joined my old troop where I earned my Eagle. Now I'm back involved full time. My middle son is now a tiger in cub Scouts. With one in Boy Scouts & one in cub scouts there will be much more camping in my immediate future!! Seems EVERYONE is a hanger now. Several of the adults & some of the older boys all do the Hammock thing. They all swear it's the most comfortable way to camp, so I'm going to give it a shot.
I made a fairly simple & cheap set up. So far it's only cost me $24.00.
I bought 3 yards of rip stop nylon from JoAnnes fabric. Sewed a seam around all 4 sides. I'm using some tie down ratchet straps I had laying around to hold the ends up. I'll use some para cord & an old tarp for a cover. Gonna put my sleeping bag & foam pad in it. I'll see how it goes...Wish me luck!!
(I set it up between two I Beams at work & sat on it to make sure it would hold my weight. I was surprised at how much the ratchet straps stretched)
