Thanks for the heads up guys. I will definitely be checking into those. I'll have to see what it takes to get a guided tour from KYHiker. If you could just brain dump to a SD card that would be great. :-)
I would rather be in the woods... my dog would rather be in the pool. My wife thinks we are both nuts.

LOL. my problem is that the RRG is about the only place I go when I camp/hike. Drop me off in a different part of the state, say like Big South Fork or Cumberland Gap area and I would be clueless!

I have never heard of 'The Veranda' but things down there get so many different names over the years... You guys might want to check out a web site :
http://toredrivergorge.com/ a lot of good info and hike info there.
Also for general map references you can save this link :
http://www.outragegis.com/gorge/3d/ this is the same site to buy the good shaded relief maps from if you can't find them in your local stores.

There is plenty to do and see from Tunnel Ridge Road, Hansen's Pt is one of the best panoramic views but can be tricky to find if you have never been out there...just something to keep in mind, unmarked trails wont be on maps and you will have to go by trail descriptions online or elsewhere. If you head out to Courthouse Rock take the Auxier ridge trail it has some excellent views of Raven's Rock, Double Arch and general vistas for camera shots.

Yea, I'm sure it's acquired multiple names (I've heard Hanson's Point referred to as Pinch em Tight Ridge).

KYHiker are you KYHiker40 on another site?

No not that I recall, although I do frequent another forum site but my handle there is KY Hiker because KYHiker was taken. Why do you ask?

Broken Halo, I believe Hanson's Pt is but a look out point on Pinch em tight ridge. You have to pass through two large and open campsites on that ridge off the main trail before you get to what is called Hanson's Pt.

That is correct sir. And those 2 campsites are awesome, but the path to them is a little screwed up (4 foot tall pine trees lol).
.... the Aardvark (earth pig)... a rather unremarkable creature whose sole claim to fame is that it is the first animal listed in the dictionary.

I haven't been out there since the late 1990's. The fires must have hit that ridge too, guess the scrubby pines are the first to take things back over. I bet that is a bit confusing to walk out there with the landscape changed. But it is great that after a fire the forest just reseeds itself as it should.
