    Will my insulation be sufficient?

If I posted this in the wrong area, please move.

I'm prepping for my first multi-night trip in October and just noticed the weather forecast. It looks like low 40's most night, but I have 1 or 2 that may hit low 30's. And honestly it may get be colder than that as I'm getting the forecast from a near by town.

Right now I have a 2.4 Hexon tarp, KAQ Jarbidge, WB Superfly, and will use my Feathered Friends 20deg bag (don't have a proper TQ yet). Having never used a hammock in that cold of weather, do you all think what I've listed will be sufficient?

Just check what your comfort rating on the quilt/bag is and go from there. If you are worried just take a nice comfy jumper and long johns incase you are chilly.

We rate the Jarbidge to 25F so assuming you have good lower leg insulation then I would think you will be comfortable. If you can test close to home first.

Forgot to mention I'm a relatively warm sleeper. Unfortunately, I won't have the opportunity to test beforehand.

So, since the Jarbidge is rated to 25F, my bag is 15-20F, and I have a sit pad I can use for leg insulation, I should be ok.

    Thanks!

You might want to read THIS thread about using a bottle of hot water to stay warm. Better to be prepared than to end up too cold to sleep and the water bottle trick has saved me from my own stupidity more than once

Great idea on the hot water bottle. That will definitely be my back up. I'm guessing a 1 or 2 liter platypus would also work, and may save a little weight.

Hmmm, not sure you want to put boiling water in a platypus. You might want to try it before you take it into the woods.

Personally I use THIS, then stick it in a 1 gallon zip lock freezer bag, then stuff it into a spare sock. As you can tell, I don't want water leaks in the middle of the night.

Good point. I'll have to try it out prior. Thanks for the link, I actually have that exact bottle. I was trying to keep my weight to a minimum - but might have to rethink my bottle choice.

Given that you're a warm sleeper, assuming you know how to hang the UQ properly and abide by Paul's advice for your lower parts, you should be absolutely fine.

You'll have a warm jacket to supplement with if needed, correct?

Bring a space blanket, and dont forget warm socks, gloves, and a warm hat. (you should be fine!)
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.
