I have been saving up to get a Hennessy or other brand hammock. I tried to get to Trail Days so I could check the options out, but due to work it just didn't end up happening. So instead a friend of mine and I headed up to Look Rock for some frontcountry just so we could be outdoors.
So I packed up the tent (hopefully for the last time) and we headed out. After the first night (on the ground - on a $5 Wal-Mart pad) my shoulder was killing me and I really got cold for some reason. The next afternoon I was moping around thinking "I really wish I could have gotten my hammock before this."
I started eying the blue tarp and rope that we had brought just in case of inclement weather and thought "I wonder..."
Fortunately I had checked out the DIY forum on here and remembered enough to whip up a makeshift hammock out of the blue tarp and some nylon rope. And WOW! It was really comfortable! My friend actually tried to steal away my "hillbilly hammock" after trying it out. I even ended up sleeping in it that night and woke up with no shoulder pain, and stayed really warm (a little too warm on the bottom - got a bit squishy. Definitely getting an under quilt.)
What a fun trip! Now I REALLY can't wait to get the real deal!
