Having fun with a tyvek over cover

I haven't sewn the zippers on to my winter hammock yet. Still debating. The ends unzip to allow ventilation both ways.

It can be unzipped all the way to the end. It's tyvek and sorta breathable.

I was outside and it was cosy inside. My back was getting cold though.

    Decisions decisions. Gotta love Flecktarn

Still hard to believe from your photos that the material is tyvek. It's by far the best looking tyvek I've seen, especially since it's flecktarn.

I don't see tyvek being more durable or breathable as 1.0 ripstop. What am I missing? lighter weight, the camo pattern?

Our winters are cold, no rain so my intention was something that could take a bit of snow. It's pretty light, lighter than the 2.5 flecktarn. And it would 'shed' wind. I do over-nighters and sometimes prefer not to have a tarp set up in the jack pines. Plus it was more of a cool factor look as well.

It is amazing looking for being tyvek! How is it holding up? I work in construction and get free tyvek all the time. I haven't done too much with it because I can very easily tear it with very little effort just holding my fingers close together and pull opposite directions. I have found though that you can get the mesh type of white papery tape used for duct insulation, and wrap all edges in it to end up with something at least halfway durable. Tyvek tape also works for this, but not as pretty. My plan is to make a ground sheet with it that can also double as a backup tarp with no sewing. I noticed it tears even easier if you perforate it.

Is what you are using a higher quality and more durable than the standard house wrap? What methods have you used to combat the weaknesses in the material?

I've been playing with it for different things. My tarp idea wasn't a success. The side tie outs were fine, the ridgeline was good - the failure came at the RL tie outs. Cranking them over snug caused a tear. I was really trying to make it fail in test so I knew if it would work in the field. The cover is doing fine, RL organizers good, loving it for ground peg bags/organizers except like anything camo they are easy to lose in the leaves
I'm thinking I try a few gear hammocks with it and ground sheets. I have the tyvek code somewhere here lol. Nice thing is that on the white side there is no 'tyvek' logo print. White/flecktarn.

This is pretty much exactly what I want to make. (edit: different material though)
