    Sipsey Trip - Thursday night

I only got to stay Thursday night. The Sipsey is beyond words! Thanks to DougTheElder, Angrysparrow, Hetori, Mactyre, and Skippy for welcoming me to the group.

The guys were expecting rain tonight, though I'm not sure they knew about the winds and tornado warnings. Can't wait to hear from them on Sunday.

If you haven't been to the Sipsey, I definitely recommend it. I can't wait to go back.

Angrysparrow should have the official trip report up once they return.

That's one majestic place!!! Thanks PegLeg!
I hope they don't get the high winds. Looks like they may have pretty good protection there as long as they don't get covered by something really bad.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

I hate I got he crud and had to miss this one. I go to the Sipsey 5 or 6 times a year and it doesn't get in better than it is now. The rain just makes it come alive.

Those canyons provide pretty good shelter from the winds, thunderstorms can be scary though. The thunder just ricochets of those canyon walls.

Hate I didn't get to meet you Peg-leg. Maybe next time. There is a lot more to see in Bankhead and the Sipsey.

    Hey great pics.

Hey Peg-Leg, sorry I missed you. It rained about 12 hours straight, starting within minutes of the last tarp going up. And an ankle deep creek we crossed at about 6PM was waist deep within a few hours! Al least I had a wonderfully convenient water supply from water running off of my tarp. It made for an interesting crossing for Ihanginbankhead, who came in that night. Bee Branch falls were mind blowingly spectacular. And it was an unusually interesting Halloween trip! Details to follow.

Wow on the rain! You guys were getting the worst of it according to our local news station. Sorry I missed you as well.

Looks like they'll have a cool clear night tonight. I can't wait to hear the official report and view Hetori's photos.

    Peg-leg:
I will go with everyone else on this one, sorry we did not get to meet. It was a great trip and a very wet one on Friday night just after we got into camp. BillyBob is right, Ihanginbamkhead is a true outdoorsman. The falls were really running and inspiring. I will post pics in the report thread.

    Hey John,
Looks like you got home OK. I was home by about 8PM. I'm anxious to hear how Skippy is feeling.

I'm also looking forward to seeing all of the pics. The only pic I could post is one taken after I got home of my left big toe, which is solid blue under the toe nail! No wonder my feet were hurting. I definitely won't use those particular running shoes for another hike of that nature. BTW, it was 4.2 miles in Fri night. On Saturday, per calculations on my computer map software, it was 1.1 miles up from Sipsey to Bee Branch falls, then another 5.5 miles per the GPS tracking from the falls to the parking area. In case any one was wondering. Doesn't seem like all that much mileage, but counting time spent crawling over and under trees and getting across creeks adds a bit to it, IMO!

    What's wrong with Skippy?
