Trip Advice, 12 days of trekking. with hammock only

    Hey there!

my friend and I are planning a 12 day hiking trip next summer, ( we're taking 2 weeks off but planning on flying to the destination, so that will take 2 days to fly there and fly back).

    we're from Montreal Canada.

I'm trying to find a good trekking destination that would allow us to Hammock Camp our whole trip. it can be anywhere in North or South America.

any of you got advice on a location? we'd like to average around 13-15 miles per day. With a few peeks along the way!

thanks for sharing some info with us!

    Cheers,

    Bruno

Lots of country in Idaho that you could hit.

Nope, Idaho is one of the only states without a National park. It's in the Sawtooth wilderness. About 3 hours out of Boise, 5-6 out of Salt Lake.

Upstate ny. In that time frame you could hike the northville/ placid trail in it's entirety the trail goes up through the high peaks region before ending in lake placid. This would allow you to detour and hit some peaks and get right back on trail to finish or an alternate route. They have done some trail work and road walking is minimal. It's approx 130 miles long from end to end. But if you start at trail head in benson I think it's 125 give or take. If that's to much to bite off. There are plenty of opportunities to start at different points and still go through the high peaks region. It's pretty remote and doesn't get a ton of use. I've spent about 7 nights on the trail and only 1 time did we camp with somebody who wasn't with us(who was a nice guy anyway) fires are ok to have and there are lean to sites along the way. We had no problem hanging hammocks at all lots of trees. There is lots of water so that not a problem either. Anyway just an option although you maybe familiar with this already if so sorry, but I'm surprised by how many outdoor people right here don't even know about it.

That's great advice fastmatt! I'll advise my hiking partner about this location and we will do some research on it.

Your welcome. There is a nice guidebook availible for it a map. And help with trip planner and places to resupply or have mail drops. Plenty of info on high peaks region (lake placid, keene, keene valley) also a quick search on you tube of high peaks in ny will bring up a bunch and also some you tube videos on the trail. There is a pretty good video documentary so to speak of it on you tube I actually think a hammock forum member made it. Good luck on your adventure. Wherever it may take you. Ps. No permits are required. Rules are minimal and at large camping is ok on most of the trail.
