Anyone know where to test-hang a hammock in Jensen Beach/Stuart, FL

I'm trying to make my first hammock. Have the material, have the hammock body ready to test for lenght before cutting my material to size and hemming. I need somewhere to test-hang. I don't have anything indoors to attach to, and don't have a suitable yard. Anyone in the Stuart/Jensen Beach area know of a park where attaching to the trees wouldn't be viewed unfavorably (I'm not going to sleep there, just testing the length), or have a suitable backyard I could use? Also, as this is my first hammock, I could use some help from a local who has some experience in this field.

Though not everyone updates their profile with an accurate location, you might try searching the Members List and emailing someone. Not everyone regularly checks the board.

Doesn't have to be trees either- I have used fence posts and sign poles down in the ball park- very early- nobody around..even a couple of Suitably spaced Handicapped parking signs might suffice for a test..HTH KM

I have several strategically placed eye-bolts secured around the house in various walls :-)

If you don't mind putting some discretely placed holes in the walls (into load bearing beams) then you can hang it up inside your home.

Just go over to Jonathan Dickinson State Park - lots of trees. Good place to test a hammock overnight as well.

Welcome to HF! I am in Palm City and can hang along the golf course behind my home, but you may find some suitable trees at Stuart beach by the basketball courts. Or as stated here Jonathan Dickinson State Park(There ia a rule that you cannot hang anything from trees in State lands though).

You're right about hanging things from trees in Florida State Parks, but I've never been questioned about it there. I go through JDSP all the time as part of the Ocean to Lake trail and have hung my hammock in front of half of their employees and they've never mentioned it.

JDSP is a good choice. Dupuis is west on 76 and is less traveled when not not in hunting season. When I made mine, I just used a couple of trees in the common area of my development. I got a few odd looks, but got over it.

Try loading up the pack and walking the neighborhood! While trying out my new pack, someone called security on me saying there was a vagrant in the area
