The main difference between MAHHA and the NJ Winter Hang is that the unpaved road from Carranza Road to the campsite can be tricky. While it's less than 1/4 mile, plenty of people have gotten stuck and had to be towed out. One idiot (who shall remain unnamed) got his uninsured rental car stuck in the sugar sand, but someone was nice enough to push him out (the front bumper unfortunately detached, but a kind piney reattached it and the rental car was returned with nobody the wiser).
Last year somebody lost an oil pan on a tree stump, so the main advice is stay on the road, and watch out for sugar sand. If it's been raining, don't just drive through the puddle. Get out of your car and assess the depth of the water and whether you can make it. If it's been snowing, be especially careful so you don't have to get towed out (you won't even know there's a puddle until it's too late).
The good news is that they finally repaved the road from Carranza Road to the campsite, so we probably have much less to worry about this year. By next year, I'm sure the road will be back to its usual rutted self!
