If you want to have more of an incline, you'll just have to move to another place in the hammock. Scooting your butt up towards the head end works. Lying less diagonal works as well. But even when you lie as flat as you can, your head will never be the lowest point of your body, unless you fight against the hammock or let it hang over the side.

Hanging the head end higher will do nothing for you apart from having you end up closer to the foot end. The heaviest part of your body (butt or torso) will always end up in the lowest point of the hammock. Which is why on average men tend to hang their head end lower than women. Men have their center of gravity higher (torso) than women (hip). Both still end up in roughly the same area because gravity works that way in the hammock.

I can lay both ways (but head always left, feet right), but end up in a 3/4 position with my face looking either out of the hammock or into the hammock.
Ok, good. I'm glad to hear that either side will work! Yay! I'm glad to hear too that I'll still have a bit of an incline when I lay in it. It's sounding like maybe a good idea would be just to buy one and try it out and if it doesn't work, resell it.

Now to figure out quilts, underquilts and tarps!

You all have been so helpful! I really appreciate it!

I think the only thing I'm bummed about with the prospect of this hammock is that it appears to only come in one color... olive green. Is that right? Do they ever offer any other colors? I realize this is a somewhat trivial issue but I love colors and was looking forward to picking something fun!

Yes, well, olive green for the 1.7oz or olive brown for the 1.1oz hammocks. If it is colors you want, you would have to go to Dream Hammock or Hammeck...

The XLC is also available in Multicam, which matches everything.

You could always pick out fun colors for your TQ and UQ to brighten things up or go with a Hammeck or Dream Hammock. The Hammeck Netty and Envy-S and the DH Thunderbird were on my shortlist, all quality gear. Ultimately I went with the XLC because of the shelf and footbox which I believe are unique to the Blackbird series. Now if I could just figure out what insulation to get...

Last time I looked in the sales section someone had lightly used one for sale. Here it is says he is asking $190 for it.

Ya, I think I'll just get a bright underquilt since that will cover most of the hammock anyway.

I have problems with vertigo as well and the lay doesn't play havoc with my vertigo whatsoever... To be clear, I have issues with both ear problems that cause some vertigo as well as a problem that I've had that was due to a tumor pushing against my inner ear that I had removed last year... The straight up ear vertigo is simple, just lay on that side which is easy and comfortable in the xlc... My other issue is solved by having my head elevated a bit and that is simple as well, you just slide toward the head end of the hammock. You will just have to try different hang heights with each end of the hammock and see how the lay is best for you but I find it easier to control my vertigo in a hammock rather than in my bed. Myself, I do hang the head end about 8-12" lower than the foot end and that works the best for me

Thanks Solohammock! I really appreciate the feedback from someone else that deals with vertigo! Mine is very intermittent and unpredictable (like, once or twice a year) and they don't really have it figured out what's causing it so to be on the safe side I like to have at least a little incline.
