    Ricegravy, are you listening?
Oh I'm listening, but I'm not sure what a fleech headbad is

Does anyone know of any instructions on making a pack cover? It is my next project.

    Just Jeff's Cover/Gear Hammock

I made a pack cover for my son to use at Philmont last year. He's still using that same cover now. I had him load up his pack and then I measured top to bottom (including on top coming around to the back of his neck and on bottom going all the way to his body) The measurement is a "C" look to it but then on the material you flatten out that and add more to make up for the sewing and the tube you'll sew for the cord to go inside of. Same for the left to right measurement. I ended up with a large oval/egg shape. Sewed the edges while also making the place for the cord to go into. You may need to add some cords on it to tie it to your backpack. My son keeps his attached to the top of his pack and deploys it if it rains. You cinch up the rope running all the way around to fit your pack. Shock cord could be used too. If you pieced your material, you'll need to seam seal it.

Thanks angrysparrow, I knew I have seen that somewhere. I believe that is the design I will go with for my first attempt :-)

I did basically the same thing as Tina Louise, but triple stitched the hem. Added a few extra feet of muletape webbing, and use it as a hammock chair, pack cover, or gear hammock. Gotta love the multi-use stuff. Amsteel or similar cord would work, just didn't have any on hand at time of construction. I just made a rectangle about 40x50".
