Can't remember if I've posted but I'll be there. This gives me an excuse to shop for warmer clothes and stuff! Not sure what I'm bringing food wise but my sister has a kick-butt broccoli, red onion, raisin, sunflower seed salad thingie recipe that rocks.

I'm hoping that we'll be able to make it, but it depends on the weather - if it's too warm, we will be out climbing, not driving six hours to VA. If it's nice and cold, then we'll be in more of a camping mood.

Unless anyone can point out some good boulders near the shelter. We could bring crash pads and get our climb on

I'm putting it on the calendar! Assuming my winter gear is up to snuff, I'll be there!

I believe there are some good bouldering spots on the AT right next to Massie Gap...

I won't be there for the hang, but thought I'd pass along a weird thing that happened today. I called the Grayson Highlands State Park office with questions about a section hike my family and I are doing next week over Thanksgiving weekend. We're parking at Grayson and getting on the AT at Wise Shelter and hiking to Partnership Shelter.

The lady at the Park Office told me that Wise Shelter was only for thru-hikers and we weren't supposed to stay in it! WEIRD. Not that we intend to, but still, I never heard of such a rule.

    For what it's worth.

They have the same rule in the Shenandoah National Park except the shelters are for "long distance" hikers only. They go on to define long distance as something like 3 consecutive nights or more. Weak. Before I had a hammock I frequented the shelters and was always welcome by "long distance" hikers. I was always the first to volunteer to set up a tent if it started to fill up but somehow there always seemed to be space.
