WI > 5th Annual Wisconsin Winter Hang

    Here We Go Again!!!

Winter camping season is just around the corner and I would like to invite all who dare to brave the cold to join us for the 5th Annual Wisconsin Winter Hang. Our group hang in WI is very simple and straightforward. We do not have to set up any spaces or reserve spots because we will be hiking out both on and off trail in the Chequamegon National Forest to a primitive site of our own with great lake views and lots of good ol' firewood. Plenty of fishing opportunities and ice sailing???

    When? January 15th-17th
Where? Porcupine Lake Wilderness in Drummond WI

Note: Camping in sub freezing temperatures can be dangerous and may not be the best time to try new gear for the first time (ex. stoves, tarps, boots, sleep system, etc). It is always a good idea to familiarize yourself with new equipment before taking it to the field.

Any idea how long the hike in, will be? Would it be possible to do an in and out within the same day? I'd love to come hang out, but I don't have enough insulation to spend the night.

The trail in to the lake isn't very long.... maybe about a mile, and could easily be done there and back in a day

Awesome, as long as I get up early enough to drive up there, it might be a possibility! Snowshoe in, hang up my stuff for a bit, hang out, meet people, gawk at all the sweet gear, pack up my stuff and hike out. I'll follow the thread!

Sounds like that could save us Southern WI hangers a couple hours driving? Could make that a real possibility for me...... and hopefully a few others as well.

Porcupine lake was getting old. No fish either. Grizz's place should be pretty cool. I think me a cryowild will probabaly car pool. Could probably get a car load.

From what I am told the fishing is good. I put in. A fish finder a few weeks ago and was seeing lots of fish.

Yeah porcupine lake was getting old. And I live in Kenosha now so to drive 7 hours was just too much. Grizzly place is still a trek but much closer and more central. I really think it will be easier for everyone. I think we will have a good sized group this year at the new spot. Also going to be inviting a special guest who makes some of the gear we all love and use. I won't give it away until I know for sure he can make it.
