    Some knots by Phantom Grappler

While I was at the Yates Place group hang, Phantom Grappler asked me to video some of his knots.
I'm sure he will come along in a bit to explain all of this, as I'm not a knot expert.

As it says in the video, you can forward to different parts of the video by clicking on the time next to the description.
For example, clicking on the 13:07 will take you to that part of the video (assuming you are in YouTube).
"13:07 Part 2: Emergency soft shackle"

I love watching the Phantom Grappler do his magic with knots. Now my first question is "How much lighter is a single diamond stopper knot than a double diamond?

I've tweaked a couple knots to make them easier to tie and save time. When tying munter suspension. I used a triple munter--I added an extra wrap--now it's a quadruple munter and skip the Farrimond friction hitch and replace it with a slippery half hitch backed up with two half hitches tied with the bight. This will eliminate having to tie Farrimond friction hitch--a new knot you may not have learned.
The other change is on Florida suspension. Pull tarp line tight and tie a slippery half hitch backed up with two half hitches tied with the bight (tight against continuous loop as it exits prusik at the tree). This is faster and easier to tie. Under the tarp the end of tarp line is tied semi-permanently to tarp line with a slip and grip knot like a Farrimond friction hitch or prusik. After staking tarp walk under tarp and tighten by sliding this knot until the extra line is tight. This eliminates having to wind up or hank any extra line and if the half hitches and slippery half hitch fail then your slip and grip knot will keep tarp up and will have to be tightened. This will save time as the slip and grip knot stays tied and is simply slid along the tarp line to tighten any slack after you have tied tarp line with a real quick and easy to tie slipped half hitch backed up with two half hitches tied with the bight. Thanks to TallPaul for all your kindness and considerable time and talent.

Bonepile this is uncharted territory for me. You have a few tricks up your sleeve with your suspension. Are you going to Yates this spring?

Thanks for doing this. Since I met Phantom Grappler at Jordan Lake I have been spending much of my free time practicing my knots and learning new ones.

Pyrrha1 here's hoping to see you at the next hang. And thanks Tacoma96 for his Zeppelin bend, jam resistant, which he showed me how to tie. One thing about our hang at Jordan Lake--hammocks came in swimmingly--with the much needed rain. I can imagine that camping trip in a tent.

LOL @ the 10min mark: "Alotta ya'll think phantom grappler is crazy..."

Yeah, crazy like a fox! Thanks tallpaul and phantom grappler!!!

By the way you read my mind with the munter/half hitch combo. Definitely going to be giving that a try.

Well how `bout dat?!? I just learned how to tie my shoes! (Seriously! I had to re-tie my work shoes 2~3 times a day ... until now ) I've never seen that method before.

Thanks! It's amazing what you can learn around here.
