Never understood how someone could be so dumb as to fall out of a hammock...until I realized how dumb I am.

-Sat back in a $20 cheapie hammock with integrated netting then found myself upside down hanging in and tearing the netting.

-Sat down in a HH (zipper modded, with bug net rolled back) missing the hammock and going to ground in the JRB Winter Nest UQ the hammock was in. Thank goodness the JRB uses bungees, so no harm came to it.

-Sleeping in the HH using a one tree hang when the stakes pulled out and I woke up plopped on the ground.

Last Friday night I setup my hammock in my studio and went to sleep, awoke in the middle of the night and went to the bathroom returned climbed in and just as I was laying back found of what happens when you don't tie a half hitch behind the rings. After laughing at myself in pain I decided it was easier to climb into my bed. It's been almost 3 days and my hip is still a little tender.

While stringing up my cheapo Kalisto for the first time, my buddy decided to try it out while I was just finishing the attachment at my end. As soon as his weight hit it, the crappy factory knots gave way and he started to fall. Thankfully, I was still holding the biner on the end that gave way so I lowered him gently to the ground.

After that, we spent a little more time retying all the knots to make sure that didn't happen again. I have since replaced all the stock suspension with 1" webbing and some Amsteel whoopie slings, so bad knots shouldn't be a problem anymore!

I fell out once when I was new to hanging. I had pitched the hammock too taut and I flipped right out. Wind hasn't seemed to be an issue for me, as long as I have the tarp pitched low enough.

flat out no problem with my Clark, that thing is extreamly stable!!
Now I've also got some of those cheapie hammocks and there's been a couple of times that I've come very close to rolling out of them!!! I've often thought, because I also have a kayak, hey I wonder if I can "practice" rolling with the hammock!! Thinking about the resulting bump on the head, I decided that might not be such a great idea.

That is a hoot! What a pic!

First night ever in a hammock, got inside my new HH with SS, and proceeded with acrobatics attempting to get inside my mummy bag. Which turned into desperate attempts as the temps plummeted to 22*F, still with poor success. When I woke up shivering at 0200, I realized I was partially in the net, with the SS pad/UV and hammock bottom opening nearly above me! For a while, I thought I was either going to have to call for help or cut myself out of that freezer! But, I never hit the ground, nor could I later determine any damage to the hammock. A testimony to the build quality, I suppose. I never came close to anything like that again, and I did learn how to get in my bag if needed.

Later, when I first got my Pea Pod, I had it on my Speer top loader. It was night, I don't remember if I had my head light on or not. I went to sit down, and instead of grabbing the back edge of the hammock, I must have grabbed the Pea Pod thinking it was the hammock. Quick and smooth as you please, I flipped over the back edge and landed flat on my back. It seemed like it happened in slow motion, but it still hurt a bit, and I had sore ribs for a couple of weeks. I was grateful that I was not over any rocks or roots.

And I was glad that there were no witnesses to either of the above events.

I have slowly dropped a bit or even hit the ground once or twice if I didn't have my a back up half hitch with triangle rings or carelessly had a cinch buckle adjusted crooked, and seen it happen with a friend using rings with no back up hitch, but I don't even count that, just no big deal.

I've only been backpacking with my hammock for a couple of months now and found out that either i installed the rings wrong or its a natural tendency but on my first hang i woke up on the ground, not sure how long i laid there.

Funny this is brought up as i was a little skeptical about the stability of a hammock "think kayak" but quickly found out that i can't even deliberately flip my Speer while lying in it.

Oh....i invented a mod for my ring buckles that completely eliminate any slip.

A bit of slack might be afforded a junior member... but I believe it is considered bad form to make a comment like that and not post pics.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

The first time I set up the Byers Mosquito I had it too tight and low to the ground. Well I rolled in and rolled out the other side and into the mesh and ended up upside down. And the only way to get out was to get out, was the way I came in! At 220 lbs I was in the mesh and on the ground. SO I had to work my way out of the center to upright myself, took me five minutes to get out. I didn't damage anything other than my pride. The second time I got in my weight stretched the material and my bum hit the ground within half an hour... You know how embarrassing this is???, I actually had to contemplate posting for a day or two. Enjoy the chuckles....
