Ok I am sure this has been asked before...

Please understand I am new here and WOO was more about my interest in raptor watching,

Take a look at this ....

Can this be accomplished with hiking poles and knots?

Hiking poles just aren't strong enough.

Even the simple looking situation in the pic can be hard to accomplish because the stake is under high load and can pull out.

yes regular hiking poles like lekis and komperdells are not strong enough but there are exceptions:

Mine are solid one piece bo staffs but Valcour makes them sectional as well...a bit heavier than a pair of lekis but not by much..

Need a big stake rather than just a tent peg, but you can actually do this with one pole instead of a bipod.

It's a work in progress, but looks promising & is what you are talking about I think.

We are still working on the supports, but I think the options for the ground stakes have it nailed. And in typical Hammocker fashion, there are multiple ways to do it.

I don't know about that. I think it would take me more than hiking poles and knots to get that gal into my hammock.

Sorry about that silliness, couldn't resist. But I would think that some fairly stout hiking poles would be as strong as those would supports. I think, as always, the problem to overcome would be an adequate stake in varying types of soil conditions.
