Hey Jazilla, I think I recommended Kincaid last year, even though I ended up bailing on the trip. I was up there over before Thanksgiving. Found another nice spot close to Kincaid it is Valentine. I would guess 6 miles from Kincaid. No power hookups, means less RV racket. Does have bathrooms, not sure about showers. Directly on a lake, great for kayaks. Plenty of trails, I think the WAT trailhead is right there also. Would be worth a scout. I did not look at from a group hang perspective for trees.
This sounds like fun. Is there a location set yet?
Thinking of coming down from Michigan.
I have hiked both Caroline Dorman and Backbone trails in that area. Backbone doesnt even feel like you are in La. Great.
Not familiar with Kisatchie Bayou though. The reviews indicte it is nice but primative.
I soooo wanna do this from Conroe Texas, but I will be in the process of redoing my kit in the beginning of February and no way I will receive all my gear by the end of month. Hope next time. Thx, Rick..
Rick68, if you have shelter and warm blanket you are good to go. Unless you plan on hiking over night, just bring the basics for camp.
I just did both of those over Thanksgiving with my daughter. Backbone is the best trail in LA. You will swear you are in the foothills of the applachians. It is about 45 mins from Kincaid and Valentine. Both trailheads are next to one another. I am not aware of any group hang opportunities in the immediate vicinity of the trailheads, I am sure they are there, but they would likely be without any facilities.
Kisatchie Bayou campground is about 11 miles from the Carolyn Dorman/Backbone trail heads. Actually, the Carolyn Dorman trail ends/begins at Kisatchie Bayou campground. KBC is a primitive site with only dump toilets. No electricity, no water on tap. The bayou itself will not float boats, so all who wish to paddle are grounded. There are about twenty-five camp sites with plenty of trees for hangers. You could hang off the bank, listen and watch the bayou run.0103161620.jpg $2 per day per site & $2 per day per vehicle at the self serve info center at campground entrance.
I think Kisatchie Bayou is a good winner. We have never had a hang that one could actually hear running water. I will finally post the thread for the hang. Sorry it has taken so long guys.
Yosemite Sam: Are you trying to make me look a fool?
Bugs: You don't need me to make you look like a fool.
