Smile 43 feet high hang ------- Two climbers tree camping on the north shore of Minnesota!

Yes! It is finally happening! I have found people to join me in the tree canopy! WOOT! Justin (who I met online, haha) flew up from Florida to learn the ropes (pun intended) of tree camping. We drove to the north shore of Minnesota to do some hiking and climbing on the Superior Hiking Trail. The first night I was dreading the entire drive up because it was the worst possible conditions: rainy and freezing temps. Camping in subzero temps and blizzards is easier than camping in the freezing rain. To make things worse, we could not find any suitable trees along the Split Rock River so we ended up camping next to the ground.

Day two was much more awesome! The sun came out and we tree climbed all day! We slept high in the canopy and relaxed all night watching the stars and talking about life. Here is the video from our adventure:

Looking forward to going home and watching this (I'm at work. Yep, on Saturday). I always enjoy your refreshing perspective on hanging.

I saw a YouTube post with guys hanging off a steel bridge. It would probably be my best sleep ever since I would be passed out.

I saw that same video!! Those guys were nuts, but you could tell they were climbers. They were tied off at all times and had triple redundancy setup. My bridge hang video is coming soon!

Did you have a munter on a non-locking biner and have it open the gate on itself? Glad you were still safe.

I've got to give this a go. I've mentioned it to some of my climbing buddies but no one else seems to want to do it. Maybe I need to show them your videos!

You nailed it! I actually just wrote up a "I am stupid for using a non-locking biner" post on the tree climbing forums that I frequent. If you watch the vid in slow motion you can see the tail pop the gate open. That is what I get for being lazy and over confident.

I started making tree camping videos to convince all of my rock climbing friends to join me in the canopy. I can't figure out how to get them to watch the videos but the videos have introduced me to other people who wanted to join me! If you ever make your way over to MN hit me up.

Gives a greater dimension of hanging! Great vid. Thanks for sharing it.
