If you're carrying a 50# spare tire you can't preach gramweenieism with any authority.
Yes, I made that word up.
Yes, I can talk like that because I also carry a 50# spare tire

Well i'm very new to this forum and glad to hear i hit a good one. So far i've found folks here to be helpful and mellow. You'll find people who are a pain in every sport, hobby, walk of life , and that's just the way it is. You need to believe in yourself and have a sense of humor and do your own thing, they'll do what they do. Its not all about the gear, although it helps, its about the journey. Have fun
My problem isn't that I take too much gear...
Or that I take too little gear...
But that I always want to get the cool gear everybody else has!
Alternatively, I have found that it is real easy to just turn and walk away from people who are, IMO, talking stupid. Sure, you feel bad and it seems rude the first couple of times, but once you get used to it it comes very naturally. Just don't try it with your wife...

How come we let folks talk rude and take it even in a group (Even happens on airplanes and theaters.)and then we feel bad about treating them as they deserve. Everyone wants to tell the offender to STFU - but we don't want to offend them. man I'm tired of it - end rant

This group is so darn friendly those of us who paddle a boat and carry a dutch oven that weighs 25 pounds in our boat are tolerated. (How many grams is that?) I have very much appreciated the opportunity to be here and when I have inadverdently said something that was misunderstood, it seems I have been given opportunity to create understanding.
That goes a long way in a world where quick judgement seems to be dominant. Taking time to listen and understand, while being helpful and supportive to those who may be very different than we are is something worth aspiring to in our work as well as our play. Then our world becomes very, very large and rich. This group has expanded my world. (Not to mention my gear budget.)
