I'm going to bump up this thread because we have had a lot of question's about these lately.

Anyway, has anyone tried one of these out?
By itself, what kind of temperature rating would you give it?
^-> Do you think adding a "space-blanket" or once of those car windshield sun shades (foam, of course!) would help?

    Many thanks,
    Dave

I had seen the PLUQ thread, but not this one!

My Son and I were out 3 weekends ago, low temp was 50-something. I didn't use shock cords in the ends, but that's a great idea! I did add a layer of insultex in the middle, and folded it asymmetrically so there was a slight gap between the layers of the poncho liner and Insultex.

I made corner tie-outs by pushing out the fabric with a button and running a larkshead around the outside. It worked, and he was comfy... The kid's a space heater, though...

This design looks MUCH better. I'm off to melt some holes in my Poncho Liner binding..

    Thanks for the bump...

Well, of course! I've tried the no-sew version multiple times. I would rate it at mid-50s. The sewn PLUQ is warmer as you can seal it off better.

Ok, I've been playing with this design... Dejoha, What's the purpose of the paracord down each side? Couldn't you just sew loops (or use the tieouts) to suspend the UQ?

BTW: I LOVE it! With the cord down the short end, I added a few tie-outs every 6 inches, and now it works as a TQ w/footbox...

The paracord or shock cord on each side was to simulate designs from the top-end quilts that allow you to slide the quilt up and down for adjustment purposes. I switched to shock cords just on the ends because the UQ is large enough.

I used one this weekend. Night temps 48-50. Worked well.

Ditto. I did get a touch cold but that was because I had mine adjusted incorrectly. I luckily was car camping and had brought an extra fleece blanket. I put it on top of the PLUQ and re-adjusted the shock chord. It worked well until the coyotes woke me up.

I'd say that the low for this UQ is high 40's, low 50's. That's just for me personally as everyone is different. I'd love to try some IX or even PE inside of it for more warmth and see how that does.
