Boston, this is the interesting case for me. I'm going to let the cat out of the bag and reveal that I was not thinking about quilts when I started this thread, but parkas. I posted here because I knew I would get good expert opinion. Two parkas the same size are not going to present the same situation as your trapezoidal versus rectangular example. But differences in over-stuff would matter, presumably because that does not affect loft, which is the real determining factor.
