Indiana, The first day of spring is March 20 th. next year ,thats the weekend befor easter . I would vote for a set weekend every year ,like say the weekend before easter , that would be easy to remember like the fall hang is the weekend before halloween.

A few times we started at Browning Hollow, and ended up at Browning Hill...that was kinda fun....

    I'm really open to anything..

Only bad thing about browning hill is there isn't any water. unless you want to filter brown poo water from the fire pond....( nasty )

During the spring both CV2 and Browning hollow is always flowing ( creeks )

Are these all in the Deam Wilderness? I've hiked in there many times but don't recognize those areas. I usually camp on the peninsula or over the cave.

Also, the weekend before Easter would be awesome.

The problem with scheduling the spring hang in relation to Easter is that Easter can vary by more than a month from year to year. In 2016 Easter is early but some years it is late April. Remember how Easter is determined. The 1st Sunday following the 1st full moon after the spring equinox. We should have a poll and I would suggest either the 1st or 2nd weekend in April. If Easter should happen to fall on the weekend that we chose we could just say that the hang will be on the other weekend. In other words if we chose the first weekend and it turns out to be Easter then the hang will be the 2nd weekend and vice versa. Who knows how to set up a poll? It sure ain't me

Patton Cave. Once you cross Saddle Creek Valley, at the top of the hill, instead of heading north out on the Pennitrail just follow John Grubb Ridge west. When you come to the large cleared campsite with the big flat rocks, you are on top of the Cave. OR you can walk west down Saddle Creek Valley at the base of John Grubb Ridge and find it as well.

Most caves in southern Indiana have been closed due to White Nose Syndrome for quite some time now. http://www.indianacaver.com/patton1.htm Be sure and check the slide show. It will take you pretty much through the cave.

Here's a link to a TR to the cave

It's not a long cave, just one side of the ridge to the other. Entrance is large and hard to miss. Exit is Wurmhole, small and twisty. One short crossface, and the rest is fairly reasonable. One circular room large enough for three people to stand, and a short straddle wall walk before exit.

It has been a couple of years since I was last there, but I think it probably the same distance in from the North trailhead of Nebo Ridge Trail. Others may remember a little better.

Thanks rolloff. Hope you are feeling better. We talked to you as you were leaving cv2. Looking forward to the Spring hang.

You're welcome Slider1. Yeah I was going down fast when we crossed paths on my way out. My bad luck making these hangs is almost getting to be a regular thing. I'll just keep plugging away at it. I'd entertain a Winter Hang as well. Always seems to be so much interest after everyone sees how much fun everyone had, I'm surprised we don't already have one on the schedule.

Yes, Browning hill and hollow, and CV are all in the Deam. Sorry, but work is keeping me off here, ( and a slight chip on my shoulder for getting a post removed ).

Speaking of winter hang, I'm up for that as well.
I'm heading back to the CV this weekend to relax and enjoy some quiet time with a good book, cup of coffee, and a warm fire.
