Has anyone attached velcro strips the their tarp doors? I was thinking of keeping my tarp doors closed by using velcro and not use shock cord.

The velcro would weigh more than the tarp. Cuben fiber Grizz Beaks might be an option, but I'd rather have a tarp with doors.

I think you misunderstood the question, Surfr. He's asking about velcro to close the doors that are already part of his tarp, not how to add doors to a tarp without doors.
The biggest problem with velcro is that you will have to consistently pitch the tarp exactly the same way to get the velcro to line up correctly, or you will have floppy doors.
I added velcro to my Winter Tarp doors. Did not add that much weight. Just weigh it before sewing it. Mine was less than 2 ounces. But this is my snow tarp. It IS NOT Cuben.
It does tend to catch on fleee shirts but that too is not a deal breaker for the tight closure.

And everything will stick to the Velcro ( leaves ect )

Shug do you think silnylon is a better choice for winter camping vs cuben fiber?
I added five 2 inch velcro strips on each door for my HG standard with doors. It works for me! I just got back from a trip where it snowed and I had sheets of ice on my trap. The velcro held. It'll be fine.DSC01736.jpg I had the door partially opened in this picture since I was getting in and out of the tarp for some camp chores, but I was able to get it closed fine.

If the doors are pulled taut, then it doesn't take much velcro to keep them closed enough to keep out drafts. I've got one piece on my doors...
