noob question continous ridge line strength.

    Hi all need some help,
Making my first hammock, all is great, amsteel woopie slings, end loops etc

But finding problems with continous ridge line,
What strength of cord do you need ?

In UK not easy to get zing It Lash It or Dynaglide

I do have cub cord 2mm max load 270lb but nylon so might stretch a bit
Also have marlow polyester throw line 2mm max load 183lb no stretch.
    Would this work ?

    Thanks for your help

Is this a ridgeline for your tarp or to set the lay of your hammock?? For a tarp I'm sure these would be fine. For your hammock these would be OK in most circumstances so long as you come close to a 30 degree hang angle already. The closer to nominal hang angle you get, the less load there is on the ridgeline. If however you rig your hammock really flat (straps low on trees, suspension really tight before you even get in the hammock), there's a chance you might snap the ridgeline.

Go for it....I'd stay away from the nylon though. As you mentioned, it will stretch quite a bit and your lay will change overnight as you sleep. Even with that, the amount of stretch is pretty nominal and probably won't effect it much.

    Good luck

Its for a hammock, lay of hammock,
Yes i am pretty much usually at 30deg so i guess the majority of the load is going through the amsteel and hammock itself. Will try the polyester line i think
    Thanks for the help.

if you think the line wouldn't be strong enough, just double it up, won't add much extra for weight and might give you a bit more peace of mind

Actually i have enough amsteel to do it and splice the ends maybe but seem it might be a bit bulky.

Why don't you make and adjustable ridge line out of the Amsteel? That way if you're not into the standard 83% RL length then you can change it. Personally I don't want to be gingerly getting into my hammock every time hoping that my ridge line doesn't snap.

Try a local marine shop. I use Liros D-Pro Dyneema and 1,5mm will do. I use 2,5mm or 3mm for my whoopie slings.
    Maybe one of these ?

For zing-it/lash-it in the uk go for marlow dyneema throwline, according to marlow this is stronger than zing-it too
Or if you cant stand yellow then marlow 1.8mm kiteline comes in black
