Where can a newb find fabric for his 1st DIY hammock?

Hi all, sooo I have the hammock / DIY bug and I'm ready to try my 1st project. I've looked round the threads here a bit, but I'm not sure what fabric I should use for my first hammock, and where I should get it.
I know some people have mentioned Joann or Walmart, but I'm not having much luck with them. Most of the threads I've found have been a few years old, so I'm not sure if the info on suppliers is still current.
Someone mentioned "Scott" as a supplier, but I'm not surer what his company's name is.
And there was Outdoor Wilderness Fabrics, but I didn't see a listing for what I thought would be the right fabrics.

If I could get a short, concise run down on what fabrics are good for my project, and a couple suppliers I'd be eternally grateful.

Dutchwaregear.com and ripstopbytheroll.com will have several different fabrics that are suitable, both are great to buy from.

Great info raggydoo, thanks a lot. I was thinking that RSBTR was only selling full rolls. Are they a premium quality supplier, with a price to match? Or are there also some budget options?

    Dutch, RSBTR and DIYGearSupply.com

All three have good selection and pricing.

    I'll tell you what.

I have a piece of material from the Tablecoth factory dot com.
I will send it to you if you help out with the shipping.

You can practice on this lime green beauty and go from there.

you could also then order Amsteel from the marine supply store and make your whoopies, or order from Dutch and have him make them
or order the Dutch buckle suspension from him. Get a loop turner and you are in!
You could get in on the Secret Spaceweasel thread and ask for some amsteel.
    Hammock forums provideth.

Obviously this is going to go like most other of my projects and I'll end up with 3 different hammocks by the time I'm done.

Is it closer to a regular banquet type cloth, or is is closer to thin nylon like a tent/fly?

I just got the one that everyone else got when they were all the craze.
It has a hemmed edge on all sides.
Just whip it or sew it, and suspension and whalla.

    Here's one link I found
    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...cloth+hammocks

or just search in the search bar up and to the right.

to answer your question, it's not thin.

Ripstop by the Roll has great products and prices. I used 1 oz HyperD for my hammock, TQ, and UQ ... $5.95/yd.
