Latest Scouting requirements to allow hammocks

Our troop has a rule that Scouts have to sleep in a tent with another scout until they are Star Scouts. We view hammocks as one man tents. I think it's a good idea that kids get some tent camping with a buddy under their belts before they start hammock camping.

I am sure you are doing a great job with the boys. However, sounds to me like the Troop rule is adding to the requirements. That is not something the BSA allows. If the boys want to sleep by themselves they can as the requirements do not require them to share a tent. Camping with their patrol would not mean everyone in the same tent.
There are a number of ways to accomplish the Patrol spirit without boys in the same tent.
Hope you can increase hammock camping and it sounds like you have a good start. We are trying to do the same. Embrace the new requirements and good luck.
