I use something similar on the tie outs on my tent rain fly. On my hammock tarp, I use pawn bags. Pawn bags are little itty bitty double ended stuff sacks that work great for containing the tarp tie outs. They stay attached to the tarp all the time.

I don't like velcro - I use a thin shock cord with micro cord locks.

I would be concerned about the stakes being rolled up with the guylines in the tarp. I have found many other uses for the double sided velcro though.

I use it for some things, but not tarps. It wears out, collects lint and everything else, and holds water/ice/snow like a champ.

BTW, Snag... you've got GREAT taste in music!
I was fortunate enough to see David "Dawg" Grisman and Del McCoury do two-man bluegrass last Friday down Babylon. You'dah loved it!

Packed away, those stakes will puncture/wear holes in your tarp.
    Get them out of there!

Yeah, I'd be wary of the stakes puncturing the tarp. My stakes go in a separate cuben sack that is reinforced where the points are.

Wow. I didn't notice the stakes the first time I watched the video. Yikes.
