Difference Between UCR and Whoopie Slings

I noticed in a couple of different threads here that people have mentioned UCR and Whoopie Slings in the same post, but the way the terms were used, I got the impression that they are different "beasts". I understand that UCR stands for Utility Constrictor Rope and I know what a Whoopie Sling is (got the itch to make me some in the next couple of weeks). My questions is, what is the difference between the two. My newbie thought is that UCR is a term for a generic type of device -- which includes Whoopie Slings -- but not necessarily something specific. I equate it to this line of thinking: A square is a special kind of rectangle, where all sides have the same length. So, every square is a rectangle because it is a quadrilateral with four right angles, but not every rectangle is a square because a square must have all sides of equal length. So, am I on the right track or completely off?

a.k.a. "Whoopie Slings for Hammocking : The Movie". Intended for the mildly curious in what this Whoopie Sling and UCR business is all about.
Little did I know when I did the earlier "Brief Primer on Hammock Suspension" videos that a new way of using cord suspensions was about to show up on the HF scene.

When ZA206 popped in and talked about his Utility Constrictor Rope, it set off a wave of posts, asking questions, making observations, making the connection with Whoopie Slings, posts on splicing, and fids, and .... the kind of stuff that keeps me hanging 'round Hammock Forums.

It was only a matter of time until someone opined that it would be helpful if someone put up a video on these suspensions based on rope constriction. I figured I would once I had enough experience with them to be able to contribute something by way of explanation, if not actual technology.

So the video is made, I confess it is a bit more rushed and less polished than I like, but discretionary time is vanishing and if I didn't do it this last couple of days it wouldn't get done until late September.

Basically, if you cut the adjustable loop on a whoopie sling and you have a UCR.

Thanks. It appears as though my initial thinking was pretty close, then.

Not quite. While they both operate under similar mechanics, a UCR is a distinct thing, not a category of things.

100% correct. Cut the loop on a WS and what you have is an UCR, pure and simple. It's true that you have to do things to make the bury does its job properly with the UCR, but the unloaded physical structure would be identical in this scenario.
