I think he's talking about a CRL... 8-12 feet per side if you not using a CRL should work fine.

Waltscave, what they said on the lengths: 25 to 35 for a continuous ridge line that covers the distance between both trees and the girths of each tree plus some left over to allow for knots and or hardware. And if you choose a split suspension with a line coming off each end 8 to 12 could be great. If it was me, I'd go longer cords and trim down as needed. I would not be in a hurry to trim the line down to best length for where you hang. Because you might trim them just right for the first trees you hang then get to another camp site and the trees are an OK distance, maybe a stride further apart that your first trees and one of them is so big around it takes all your line with no extra for knots and hardware. It's all your preferences which must match your tree distances and girth. Watch Shug's ten part series on how to hang hammock, tarps, pads, quilts. And get out there and have fun.

There have been several posts that have suggested that a 35' CRL is the way to go. Many stories about 30 footers ending up to be just a tiny bit short from time to time. 5 extra feet of Zing It doesn't add much bulk or weight. For separate tie-outs, just subtract about the tarp ridge length from this and make each one half of that number, i.e. probably ~12' each.

    Hey Walt!

Check out the second vid on this page and the stuff below it. Highly recommend obtaining a copy of The Ultimate Hang. Many questions answered with great illustrations.
