This is shaping up to be a pretty big camp .There is a group on Facebook called Michigan outdoors looks like it is going to produce a number of campers as well. So if it's numbers you're looking for I'm guessing close to 20 people .Thats not as bad as it sounds there's thousands of acres to disperse in so if a small group of several people want to have their own fire that's OK too.

It turns out I have a family thing that weekend, so I'll probably have to bow out this year. :-(

Bummer, I couldn't wait to see what kind of outfit you had to wear around the campfire this year. Also I want to check out your monster under quilt .Could your underquilt make it ?

Looks like a good weather pattern forming up. Three or 4 inches on the ground in Grayling now. Looks like only one day above freezing between now and the campout. With quite a bit more snow forecast .extended low temp for the 21st 9°.

Sorry to confirm that neither me nor my underquilt will be able to make it this year. I really hope I don't need to make too many more cancellations this year! :-(

I may be heading up here this weekend (off work for MLK Monday). Not sure yet...it will be a last minute decision depending on who has the most snow/less rain tonight and tomorrow. I'll be somewhere in MI!

Looks like 12-14" right now (bright yellow in center). I'm not sure how accurate it is, so I think the 8-10" mustard color would be a conservative number. Snowshoes either way!

Having hiked a bit more of the area, Byron Lake is still my favorite hang site, but for ease of access, Reid Lake sure is nice also.

Did you go up this weekend Mark? If so ,how close were you to hoist Lake recreation area?

Donk you know we are going to CarP Lake this year same as last year right? Looks like a number of us will be there Thursday afternoon. Castle 22 is going to hike in Wednesday so the trail should be broken at least I hope so.

Can't make this one; work Saturday and can't talk anyone into working for me. Should be plenty of snow with moderate temps.

I planned on going to Hoist Lakes again, but it was warm and rainy ALL day Friday, so I changed plans and went to Nordhouse Dunes to get in on some lake effect snow. Probably an icy pack under new snow, if any, so shouldn't be a problem.

If I were single and free, I'd come back up to join you guys! I'll probably keep an eye on the snow and head back up in February sometime.
