Well on my first hang, I used a modified Grand Trunk ATHH and used a self inflating Pad underneath me. I also used my -10 sleeping bag and I kept rather warm, it got down to 28 that night. The only problem I had is the pad moving on me and I woke up with some condensation on the hammock where I was laying. The next night (not as cold) I got to try a Black Bird which again the pad kept moving on me. I was ok except I set it up to high so my feet where too high to sleep comfortably. I am going to try to find other hammocks to see what I like, two suggestions for me were the "Switchback" and the "Bridge" All I wanted was something that I can sleep on my side. I think I want a UQ and a TQ, but I have the sleeping bag now and until I have more money I will stick with that. Though my thoughts lead towards wanted the TQ and UQ.

Brian. Similar experience with the moving pad with first time pad use. An old brass valve gen Thermarest. Both the ccf (Gossamer Gear and Oware) and Thermarest Prolite XS stay put. The flattest laying hammock I've have tried has been the JRB Bridge. So flat I needed a neckroll/pillow for real comfort. Did you try setting up the BB with less tension in the structural ridgeline. Basically soft or sagging line before entry?

Actually I had a fellow hanger set it up, so I am not sure how tight it was. I woke up a few times in the night, but I didn't want to get out of the hammock to try to fix it in the dark since I was unfamiliar with the setup.

For ME; I like my quilts. I carry a pad, mostly to sit on but it does double duty when the temp drops below about 35ish. I'm warmer, but not nearly as comfortable when using the pad, so.......

    Cold weather:

    Top Quilt
    Me, moderately dressed.
    Pad
    Hammock
    Under Quilt.

    Warm weather:

    Top Quilt (sometimes)
    Me
    Hammock
    Under Quilt.

I can get down to 30 with just my JRB No Sniveler, but I put the pad in before it gets down to that just because. Going to try that gossamer gear pad tho, it looks promising.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
