Narrowed It Down To 3 Quilts

    Hi Guys,
I hope I'm not starting a war here....but..... I need a little help on some underquilt decisions.

I have narrowed my choices down to 3 quilts:

    Hammock Gear Incubator 20
    Underground Quilts Zepplin 20
Loco Libre Gear Long Hot 20

Is there anyone with these quilts personally or more than one of them? What's your feedback?

I am intrigued by the Long Hot 20 with their diagonal baffles for the direction I lay in. Does it really make a difference?

As this will be the largest single item camping gear purchase I have ever made, I want to make sure I am picking wisely.

    Thanks for any insight!!

    SM

i'm currently using HG so i must plug the fine work adam does. prompt delivery and super easy from start to finish. i have the 3/4 20 and it works like a charm. easy easy easy. i've put it through some tough conditions these last few hikes and had not narry a problem. great product. super nice construction and the included suspension is ready to go.

i've scoped out the others too. they seem to be fine choices as well. i've seen quite a bit of action with both ugq and loli lately and everyone seems very pleased with them.

so you're picking among three winners.

for me, and since you asked; go HG. i'm biased, but i'm sticking with my horse

i'd be lying if i said i did

i do know that i've put this quilt through the ringer recently and it'll continue for some time. i'm getting out about every weekend presently, for one night at least. it's holding true to form. i've not yet once been tempted to adjust the down.

own two HG like the way they shaped em
next one is going to be a UGQ just to try those out to
the other one also seems really cool the way the are doing the baffles and could be fun to have for something different

get a 3 sided coin and flip it you cant loose IMHO with any of them

Get the Zepplin for sure, I have compared a lot of Tarps and the stuff Paul makes is the best

I'd agree that you really can't go wrong with any of these choices.
I have the HG Incubator 20 and even with a frost outside I was warm and cozy with my Incubator under me.
I slid my hand between the hammock and the UQ, I could really feel the warmth! It's almost like there is a heating element in there.

To a large degree I chose the HG UQ because I was in a hurry and they had stock immediately available, the others had multi-week wait times.
But regardless I am very happy with my HG UQ and have zero regrets about that purchase.

I'm using a Long Hot 20 from Loco Libre. The craftsmanship is excellect, and George is a pleasure to work with. The diagonal baffles have some wow factor, but I can't honestly say they're better/warmer than straight baffles. I can say that I hung the UQ the first night, got in the hammock, and slept VERY comfortably at 30*. No fiddling, no adjusting. The quilt stayed where I put it all night.
I'll be doing business with Loco Libre going forward!

Comparison between the standard 20° HG Burrow and the standard UGQ Flight Jacket, in this format HG/UGQ:

    Length: 74/72
    Width: 50/50
    Fill weight: 12/13.32
Fill power: 850/850 (both water-repellent goose)
    Price: $249/$279.95
Price per ounce of down: $20.75/$21

Even though the UGQ is two inches shorter than the HG, it has more down, so it will probably be the warmer of the two. However, overfilling the HG by 2 ounces would bring it to a more comparable warmth level, raising the total cost to $267 while reducing the price per ounce of down to $19. All in all, the temperature ratings of UGQ seem more conservative (I have noticed this with their UQs too), but it would be easy to compensate by over-stuffing the HG, without a price penalty.

I hope I got my facts and my math right, let me know if I didn't. Someone could follow up by adding the Loco Libre to the comparison.

Go with UGQ and you will not regret it ! I love hanging in cold weather , my 0° Flight Jacket and Zepplin is as comfortable as being home in bed. A 40° set up for shoulder season will be on the UGQ order list soon .
