    Hangin in Central Texas

Greetings folks. I'm just another transplant to Texas who escaped from CA. I've been backpacking for 45 of my 51 years on the planet. My son recently joined a Scout Troop and I realized that I can no longer sleep on the ground. After I came out of my tent, I saw another parent step from his Hennessy hammock and he actually looked like he slept! To make a long story short, I borrowed his bag, hung it in my backyard and "camped" for a night. After remembering what he told me about laying at an angle and not stringing the thing tighter than a drum, I got set up. I did sleep through the night (even with my wife, son and dog checking on me).

Since that night I've purchased a Hennessy Asym Zip which I like. I just upgraded to the Hex fly after a late fall Texas T-storm was too much for the stock fly. My son is also a hanger too. He's not the biggest kid and his Hennessy Scout weighs much less than his tent.

I'm a bit of a DIYer and geek, so I tinker with suspension adjustments, parts and configurations quite a bit. I've learned quite a bit from this forum and perhaps I'll have something to contribute in the future.

Welcome to the forum from another central Texas hammock hanger. I know what you mean about those recent thunderstorms! Sideways rain seems to be the way we get rain around here more often than not lately!

Welcome, another central TX hanger. I have a 'test lab' setup in the back yard. Working on underquilts. I have most of the rest of the system dialed in. I will be out there again tomorrow night fiddling. Gifting our scoutmaster (my son will get his Life rank this week) a hammock last summer extended his volunteer service another 10 years. The ground was about to put him out of the camping biz.

What part of the golden state did you hail from ? NorCal is my old stomping grounds

I've learned about weather quickly! I also learned that "Is it raining on your side of the street?" isn't a joke!

    Twokag,

I was born and raised in Marin, but lived in Auburn for ten years before we hit the eject button.
