So far the wilderness logics big daddy is looking like the one. I'm afraid to get anything less than 132x100 inches wide, just in case he does have to use it in the winter.
I still vote for the WL tadpole. It packs down to almost nothing. And when backpacking volume is as important as weight. I think if he decides he wants to move into winter backpacking he should save up for something larger with doors made of Cuben. A hammock gear winter palace will weigh half as much as the tadpole does. Only about 9oz!

It's hard to beat the Warbonnet Edge for the money it's a great little tarp.

I really appreciate everyone's advice. You guys definitely made my job harder with all your suggestions. In the end, I spoke to his wife and she was willing to spend a little more than $100 to get the WL big daddy with the 4 pull outs. He's really not the type to spend for cuben or upgrade on a newer model after the fact, so I thought she should go ahead and "splurge" a little. That way he gets a good all around tarp that's lightweight and big enough to handle winters in Georgia. Also this way he can spend future monies on other stuff like an under quilt or a new pack. Either way, he's really excited.

Had a hard time deciding which tarp to go with. Either the Tadpole from WL or Superfly by Warbonnet. I went the the later. Figure it would be a better 4season option.

+1 for the AquaQuest GuideSil 10x13. It weighs 1.8lbs and packs away to about 12x4.

Great thread. I need to find one too. I'm leaning toward the WB Edge.
